About Whois & RDAP
Whois is a protocol used to query databases that store information about registered domain names. It reveals who owns a domain, when it was registered, when it expires, which registrar manages it, and which name servers it uses. This tool uses the modern RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol), the successor to traditional Whois, which provides structured JSON data and better privacy compliance.
What Information Can You Find?
Registration Date: When the domain was first registered. Older domains often have more trust and SEO authority.
Expiry Date: When the domain registration expires. Domains not renewed may become available for purchase.
Registrar: The company that manages the domain registration (e.g., Namecheap, GoDaddy, Cloudflare).
Name Servers: The DNS servers that are authoritative for the domain — these control where traffic is routed.
DNSSEC: Whether DNS Security Extensions are enabled, protecting against DNS spoofing attacks.
Domain Status: Flags like clientTransferProhibited indicate the domain is locked against unauthorized transfers.
Privacy Note
Since GDPR and similar regulations, most registrars redact personal contact information (registrant name, email, address) from public Whois records. This tool queries publicly available RDAP data only and does not store any queries.
